Conversion of an agricultural barn to a dog grooming salon

Conversion of an agricultural barn to a dog grooming salon

Winning over Local Planning Officers to help a client realise a business dream

The challenge

Our client was looking to convert a barn into a dog grooming salon in open countryside near Andover, Hampshire. He had received negative feedback from the council in pre-application discussions.

The local Planning Officer had stated that the development did not meet local planning policy criteria and the business would be better located in an urban area.

Charter House Planning was instructed to take on the case.

Our solution

Our detailed research showed that our client had been given incorrect advice and the development did, in fact, meet Test Valley District Council’s planning policies. So, we challenged the council’s response and argued that this plan supported the sustainable re-use of existing buildings and the growth of the rural economy. We also showed that the aesthetic improvements to the barn would enhance the surrounding area.

Project success

As a direct result, the local council granted full planning permission without any objections.
